    A new material can grow from sunlight and air.

    A new material can grow, strengthen and repair itself with sunlight and carbon dioxide from the air. It is composed of chloroplasts from spinach leaves, a gel matrix of polymer and glucose and an enzyme called glucose oxidase. By incorporating carbon it becomes solid but not strong enough to be used as building material but can function as crack-filling or coating material.

     

     

    A new pain-relieving molecule could replace opioids.

    It binds to nociceptive receptors that block the signals of pain in the brain and also the feeling of euphoria due to opioids. The AT121 molecule has an effect one hundred times greater than that of morphine, without side effects.

    A three-way brain connection, called BrainNet, has been hooked up, allowing three people to share thoughts about a Tetris game. It’s a multi-person non-invasive direct brain-to-brain interface using EEGs (electroencephalograms) and TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation).
