A new star system discovered 1,400 light years from Earth
A new star system has been discovered 1,400 light years from Earth. Its star, an object of Herbig-Haro, projects powerful jets of plasma up to 12 light years away. The system is binary with a second star which also explodes plasma jets. A third star seems to have been ejected.
A “Wigner’s” crystal made of only electrons in a honeycomb lattice
By cooling a structure made up of two similar semiconductors to a few degrees above absolute zero, physicists have succeeded in creating a so-called “Wigner’s” crystal made of only electrons in a honeycomb lattice. They dominate the repulsion of their negative charges to minimize their total energy.
