Disappearance of a massive star in the Andromeda Galaxy due to formation of a black hole
Before dying, stars are supposed to expel some of their matter and thus appear momentarily brighter. But astronomers have observed a star in the Andromeda galaxy transforming into a black hole without having exploded beforehand.
