Our universe’s largest spinning structures — a 50 million light year long cosmic thread
Galaxies located within a vast filament rotate mostly in the same direction as it, challenging current understanding. Situated 140 million light-years away, this filament features an alignment of 14 galaxies, almost perfectly aligned over a length of 5.5 million light-years and a width of 117,000 light-years. This alignment is itself nested within a larger filament, 50 million light-years long and containing approximately 300 galaxies in total.
