New method of 3D printing
A new method of 3D printing controls where the liquid resin hardens and where it stays fluid. A 3D bas-relief can be made in a single shot rather than in a series of 1D lines or 2D cross-sections. Complex shapes can be printed 100 times faster than conventional printing processing.
3D human organoids grown in petri dish
Three-dimensional human blood vessel organoids out of stem cells have grown in a petri dish. When transplanted in mice they developed into perfectly functional blood vessels. This could be used to treat the thickening of the basement membrane in diabetic patients.
A Laser scanner generates a 3D model of a small object
The Digitizer, a 3D laser scanner, allows to generate a 3D model of a small object. Just send the model to the 3D printer to get an exact copy.
How to turn a molecule into a mirror image of itself
Some molecules are asymmetrical, left or right-handed. This is called chirality. Chemists have figured out how to turn an asymmetrical molecule into a mirror image of itself. Chirality is vitally important in pharmacology.
Wirelessly guiding a rat through a labyrinth
By wirelessly connecting a direct neural interface to a cyborg rat, a human being was able to guide the rat through a labyrinth in a limited time.
Creating artificial dynamic cells
Created artificial cells, separated by fatty membranes, exchange small signaling molecules which trigger more complex reactions. These artificial multicellular structures become dynamic as in real life.
